Christian University of Southern Indiana welcomes the opportunity to receive recommendations and nominations of persons in the ministry who deserve Special Recognition and Honor of receiving the Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree.  An honorary degree or a degree honoris causa (Latin: for the sake of the honour) is an academic degree for which a university (or other degree-awarding institution) has waived the usual requirements such as, matriculation, residence, study, and the passing of examinations.  The degree is typically a doctorate or, less commonly, a Master's degree, and may be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with the academic institution.  Conferring such an honor helps to fund our scholarship program, assisting deserving students the opportunity to receive financial support in their college matriculation.

Christian University of Southern Indiana, as with most institutions of higher education, does award Honorary Degrees that also includes the Honorary Doctorate of Sacred Music (DSM) and the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (DHL) as well as the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity (DD).  CUSI welcomes the opportunity to receive Recommendations and Nominations of persons in the ministry who deserve the Special Recognition and Honor of receiving one of our Honorary Doctorate degrees.  However, each applicant must meet the criteria established by the CUSI Board of Regents/Trustees which will also be based upon their evaluation of information provided about the candidates. 

 

The Honorary Degree from CUSI will be conferred upon distinguished Pastors, Evangelists, Ministers, Worship Leaders, and other Christian Leaders or Public Servants who have made significant contributions in their respective fields or for the extension of God's Kingdom.  *CUSI does not sell its Honorary Degrees.  However, there is a requested honorarium in the amount of $2500.00.  All Honorary Degrees are awarded solely for the accomplishment and contributions that a person has made.*

HOW TO APPLY FOR AN HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE:

 

Doctor of Divinity

 

Qualifications:

 

- Candidate must be at least 35 years old.

​

-  Send copies of all of the nominee's degrees, credentials, licenses, or other documentation.

 

-  Send us recent photo of the nominee.

 

-  Person nominating potential recipient must write a one to two-page statement listing nominee's qualifications and why you believe this person should be awarded an Honorary Degree.

 

-  Produce substantial evidence that the nominee is a licensed and ordained Minister of the Gospel.

 

-  Verify that the nominee has had at least 15 or more years of ministerial experience.

 

-  Produce substantial evidence that the nominee is an accomplished, faithful, anointed, and seasoned, ministry leader.

 

-  Prepare or present a word-processed, two-page summary or resume of the nominee's work for the Lord.  Secure the endorsements of three other ordained Ministers or other prominent Church leaders.

Doctor of Humane Letters

 

Qualifications:

 

-  Candidate must be at least 35-years-old.

​

-  Send copies of all of the nominee's degrees, credentials, licenses, or other documentation.

​

-  Send us recent photo of the nominee.

​

-  Person nominating potential recipient must write a one to two-page statement listing nominee's qualifications and why you believe this person should be awarded an Honorary Degree.

​

-  Produce substantial evidence that the nominee has made a significant difference in their community, their city, their state, their industry, and/or their place of employment, going beyond the call the duty to benefit and providing for the needs of others.

​

-  Verify that the nominee has had at least 15 or more years in service to their community, their city, their state, their industry, and/or their place of employment.

​

-  Produce substantial evidence that the nominee is an accomplished, faithful, and major contributor to the community, their city, their state, their industry, and/or their place of employment.

​

-  Prepare or present a typed, two-page summary or resume of the nominee's proven commitment to serving others.

​

Doctor of Sacred Music Degree

 

Qualifications:

 

-  Must be at least 35-years-old.

 

-  Send copies of all of the nominee's degrees, credentials, licenses, or other documentation.

 

-  Send us recent photo of the nominee.

 

-  Person nominating potential recipient must write a one to two-page statement listing nominee's qualifications and why you believe this person should be awarded an Honorary Degree.

 

-  Produce substantial evidence that the nominee has exercised their gifts in music in ministry.

 

-  Verify that the nominee has had at least 15 or more years in the music ministry.

 

-  Produce substantial evidence that the nominee is an accomplished, faithful, anointed and seasoned, music ministry leader, and/or composer/songwriter.  

 

-  Prepare or present a typed, two-page summary or resume of the nominee's work for the Lord.

-  If you are a composer/songwriter, you will need to submit up to 3 completed and recorded compositions for review that meet the above criteria.

There is a $699.00 Application/Administration/Portfolio Assessment Fee that must be submitted before processing can begin.

 

The $699.00 Application/Administration/Assessment Fee along with Nomination Summary is due at the time of application submission.  This fee is fully refundable if the application is not approved.  The requested honorarium for the Honorary degree is $2500.00.  Please note that there are no payment plans available for this Honorary degree program and that the Honorary Degree Program funds the scholarship program, opening up opportunities for deserving students to attend classes and acquire an earned degree from Christian University of Southern Indiana.
